Fibre access

MTN SA is building and connecting fibre networks around in key metropolitan areas across South Africa. In order to reduce spending and enjoy a high-speed Internet and Virtual Private Network (VPN), this access solution is quick to implement and companies are increasingly adopting Ethernet network architecture.

In order to assure you, our customer, of the commitment we have to availability and reliability, we offer a range of service level agreements.

Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment

MTN SA has affirmed its support for the RDP by committing itself to affirmative procurement since 1994. Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) was integrated with the tender rules and procurement policies to assist Previously Disadvantaged Communities (PDC) and empower MTN SA’s managers to effect affirmative procurement without compromising specifications, safety and standards.

Mobile Telephone Networks (Pty) Ltd (“MTN”) has an obligation to promote “BBBEE” within South Africa through its Procurement procedures. As such all suppliers intending to or doing business with MTN are required to commit to the below mentioned deliverables with the aim of supporting and promoting the BBBEE programme in South Africa.

We not only support BBBEE, but also have a role to encourage other companies to ensure a level playing field in South Africa by removing the current inequalities in business. MTN SA prefers to do business with business suppliers who share these same values.

In order to promote the development and support of suppliers and contractors from disadvantaged communities, MTN SA decided that a large portion of the available total procurement (discretionary) expenditure is spent in such a manner that it advances “BBBEE”. This will be achieved through the following objectives:

  • Increase access to MTN Procurement for black-owned enterprises
  • Facilitate ownership and management of enterprises by black people
  • Increase human resource and skills development especially in the ICT sector
  • Facilitate or encourage partnerships between black-owned enterprises and traditional white-owned enterprises
  • Promote economic transformation by meaningful participation in the economy
  • Create opportunities for black MTN employees who wish to establish joint ventures

MTN SA achieved a level six (i.e. 60% Procurement recognition level) BBBEE rating in 2008. However, in 2009 this achievement was exceeded, and MTN SA improved to a level five (i.e. 80% Procurement recognition level). The improvement encompassed all seven pillars of the Codes of Good Practice.

MTN SA has embraced an ongoing improvement of its current BBBEE status and envisages improving to a level four contributor in 2010
